After nearly five decades of pouring concrete across the Okanagan, we hear the same good questions again and again. Here are honest, practical answers to the ones that come up most.
How long does concrete take to install?
A standard 800 square foot driveway can be installed in three days. If we need to remove an existing concrete driveway first, plan for four to five days.
How long does concrete take to cure?
At an average temperature of 18°C, concrete reaches about 75% of its strength in seven days, and full strength by 28 days.
How long does a concrete driveway last?
Properly maintained concrete can last 40 years or more — roughly double the life expectancy of asphalt. It also stands up to heavy loads like trailers, motorhomes, boats and equipment.
Does concrete require maintenance?
Yes. We recommend a cure-and-sealer application on new installations, then resealing every three to five years by a professional.
What is polished concrete?
Using large industrial grinders, we bring concrete floors to a smooth, refined surface. The result is a modern look that is easy to clean and hypoallergenic.
What decorative finishes are available?
We offer a variety of stamped patterns that bring a more organic look to the finish. Stone, Roman Slate and wood plank are popular selections.
Why does concrete crack?
Concrete, like most materials, changes volume as it dries and as temperatures shift. Jointing controls that movement by creating a deliberate weak point so cracking follows a neat, straight line. Even with best practices, some unplanned cracking can still appear.
Can concrete be repaired?
Yes — repairs are a smart way to extend the service life of concrete. Patching works for chipped or broken sections, and resurfacing is an option for finishes that are failing or no longer wanted. Toppings are another route, though their lifespan varies and they can be difficult to repair or remove later.
Can concrete be installed in cold weather?
It can. Pouring through winter is possible, but it calls for extra measures — and extra cost. The ideal installation temperature is 10°C to 15°C.
Are you open on weekends?
Preferably not — but appointments are always welcome.
